How current the law is
The law stated. The cards state the law of England and Wales as at 6 October 2026. Where the law differs between England and Wales, the card says so.
What was checked. Provisions that had changed recently, or were about to, were checked against official sources (legislation.gov.uk, GOV.UK, the Civil Procedure Rules as published by the Ministry of Justice, and the Welsh Revenue Authority) on 6 October 2026. Everything else is a summary of settled law and has not been individually re-verified against a primary source. That includes section numbers and procedural time limits. Treat the cards as a careful summary, not as a substitute for the primary source.
Your cut-off date. The SRA says candidates are tested on the law as it stood four calendar months before the first assessment in the assessment window. A change that took effect after your cut-off date is not examinable for you, even if a card describes it. A change that took effect before it is examinable, even if no card describes it. Cards marked Law in transition are the ones to check against your own date.
Figures. The SRA says that where a calculation needs monetary values, rates or thresholds, those figures will be provided in the assessment. Procedural time limits generally will not be. Learn the method and the conditions for each relief, and do not rely on your memory of a figure in preference to the figure in the assessment materials.
The syllabus changes. The SRA reviews the functioning legal knowledge every year. The cards follow the specification that applies to assessments from 1 September 2026. Check the SQE website before you sit.
How the scheduling works
A new card is shown twice in your first session, a minute and then ten minutes apart, and then returns the next day. Each time you recall it, the gap grows: a few days, then weeks, then months. If you miss a card, it comes back within minutes and its gap is cut. If you tell us your assessment date, no card is scheduled past it.
You choose how many new cards to start each day. Practice mode lets you go through a whole chapter in order without changing when anything is due.
